The abilities page shows the abilities that you have learned. Abilities can be used in battle or in the
forge (or perhaps in other situations in future updates).
Each ability has a required proficiency in certain skills. Your skill level must be at least
as high as the required proficiency. In addition, some abilities have prerequisites, abilities that must be learned
first.
Here is an explanation of each column:
Ability Name: Self-explanatory
Preferred: Each ability is associated with a character class. If your class matches your ability's preference,
you will be more efficient when using that ability in battle.
Type: There are several different types of abilities:
Normal: These abilities can be used in battle, with no equipment restrictions. Alchemy abilities get this
type label, but remember that they also require alchemy items in order to be used.
Sword: These abilities can be used in battle only if a sword is equipped.
Bow: These abilities can be used in battle only if a bow is equipped.
Cast: These abilities can be used in battle only if mail is NOT equipped.
Passive: These abilities cannot be used in battle. They can AFFECT battles, but they do not appear on your
movelist. Smithing abilities get this type label.
SP: All non-passive abilities have an SP cost. This column lists the amount of SP that is deducted every time
you use the ability.
In addition to these abilities, there are three "default" abilities that cost 0 SP:
Focus: This ability slightly increases your SP and your SPD. All characters may use this ability.
Basic Slash: This ability allows you to deal damage to the square directly in front of you. Characters with a sword
equipped may use this ability.
Basic Shot: This ability allows you to deal damage to the closest enemy in your row. Characters with a bow equipped
may use this ability.
Besides the SP cost, non-passive abilities also have an associated "time cost." More powerful abilities often have
larger time costs, so it is less likely that you will be able to use them in rapid succession. As mentioned earlier,
using your preferred class of abilities reduces their time cost.
Abilities may be learned either from the city sage or from reading scrolls.
